2026 Roadmap
2026 feature roadmap for fastbreak
Roadmap Progress13 / 16 goals (81%)
13 done 1 in progress 2 not started
1. College basketball features
- ✅ Mobile friendly, minimalist 64-team bracket prototype ahead of NCAA tournament [tweet]
- ✅ Matchup worksheets for AP top 25 matchups [tweet]
- ✅ AP Top 25 progression over the season [tweet]
- ✅ Daily updating bracket from March through the championship in April. Bracket should have matchup worksheets for all the games. [tweet]
2. NBA and NHL trends and charts
- ✅ "One month trend" camparison chart for each NBA matchup over the next 7 days that includes stats for points per game, net rating, and other advanced stats. [user guide]
- ✅ Comparison charts for each NBA matchup over the next 7 days that compares each teams cumulative net rating over the season and their defensive vs offensive rating over the past 10 weeks. [user guide]
- ✅ NBA results view that shows the box score of games for the past three days. This view also shows the team's differential compared to their season average in the stat. [tweet]
- ✅ NHL matchup worksheets with trends and charts [tweet] [tweet]
3. Web project parity: sharing, filtering, matchup worksheets, pinning teams and storing in local storage
- ✅ Copying and downloading visualizations [tweet]
- ✅ Filtering and sorting tables and visualizations [link]
- ✅ Matchup worksheets for NBA and NHL [link] [link] [tweet]
- ✅ Pinning teams [link]
4. Daily summaries and insights based on Google search results and backed by fastbreak charts
- ✅ Beta demonstrating using Gemini with grounded search to summarize 2 narratives for 5 sports (NBA, NHL, CBB, MLB, and NFL). Each narrative tries to outline a statistical analysis based on fastbreak charts. [user guide]
- The NFL topic seems to repeat news from last year's regular season as if it occured right now. We should probably disable certain questions in the offseason (like most recent results and recaps).
5. Push notifications when there are updated charts
A user specified, in-app setting that notifies the user when the topics have been generated and gives a quick snapshot of those topics in the push notification message.
6. Selectable themes for major teams
Allowing users to select a theme that correlates to a given team, with that theme affecting the entire fastbreak UI.
Backlog
- MLB matchup worksheets with trends and charts
- NFL Draft dashboard like https://www.nfl.com/iq but with a focus on web perf and custom, linkable queries, a custom query language with configurable visualizations would be nice
- Pitcher report cards like
- Push to launch to production app stores + removing dev/ usage for chart downloads
- Web app should have a streamlined: 1) pick a team, 2) how are they doing this season, 3) how did they do last night, 4) who are they playing tonight, 5) how do they look for the future?
- Admin portal to view, rerun, disable/enable R scripts
- Better info content with links and resources on sports analytics
- Area to provide direct feedback, bug reports, feature requests
- A way of automatically disabling league scripts in the off season
- Countdowns until next big event (countdown until opening day, countdown to the Super Bowl, etc.)
- Smoother animations for syncing/loading charts
- Use ML to use stats and matchup comparisons as features, and use game excitement index as a tag/indicator, and try to predict based on stats what game will be most exciting
- Multi chart image sharing editor/creator: Select three charts, filters, a headline, a subheading, and fastbreak create a shareable image
- Pin players. Would be useful for baseball to track players in a similar way we look at matchups.
